How I Put My Trapped Life Behind Me

Have you ever reached a stage where you felt like nothing was changing despite all your efforts to improve the quality of your life? If you have, you are definitely not alone. Here’s a story about my trapped life and how I made changes.

Getting past my trapped life

Personally, I’ve been there. About six years ago, I had reached a moment in my life where I felt helpless and unable to figure out what I could do to start moving forward again. Everyone in my immediate circle seemed to be moving forward except me. Six years later, I couldn’t be happier with how my life has panned out.

Here are some things that I learned that can help you if you want to leave your trapped life behind:

1. Now is the right time to make things right

Don’t waste your time waiting for the right time to start doing the right thing. As human beings, we have a tendency to wait for “chips to fall in place” before we start doing what we are supposed to do. Don’t let opportunities pass you by because you are waiting for the perfect time. In fact, there is no such thing as “perfect time”. Go for what you desire without caring what the rest of us think. Grab every opportunity as if it is the last.

2. Never forget who you are

Sometimes when you go through a rough patch, it’s very easy to lose your own identity and let despair take over your life. This happens a lot to people who give more importance to others than to themselves. When they get stuck, they don’t really know how to ask for help from those same people that they gave so much importance to. Don’t be so focused on the “them” that you lose sight of the “you”. Remain true to yourself and understand that you don’t need anyone’s validation in order to be who you are supposed to be.

3. Don’t get stuck in the feeling of being trapped

Being trapped in life is nothing more than a feeling that you can get rid of if you allow yourself to put everything in perspective. Don’t view your life using other peoples’ lenses or be dictated to by their opinions. If you are feeling like you are not making any progress it’s probably time to change some of the things that you have been giving more importance to. Sometimes all it takes for you to feel better about yourself is to find your validation in different things rather than continue to chase after shadows.

4. Understand that you are not alone

Whenever you feel like you no longer have the will to continue fighting, remember that there are millions of people out there who are also going through the same challenges that you are going through. Everyone experiences the same feelings that you are experiencing and the only people who come through are those who are willing to persevere. You done so much that giving up now is just not an option. You are probably closer to reaching your goals than you think.

How do I go about leaving behind my trapped life?

One thing about life is that no one was born with a manual of how to go about it. That is why when you feel stuck, there is no specific switch that be switched on that will immediately turn things around. It takes effort and discipline before you start seeing light at the end of the tunnel. But the great thing about it is that you can do it.

Before frustration ensues, there are some things that you can do that will set on your way to seeing positive changes in your life and letting go of your trapped feelings. Here are some steps that you can take in order to start moving forward:

Weigh all your options

One thing that we always forget when we feel stuck is that we have so many choices. So if you are at a point where you feel like you need to make a life-altering move and you don’t know where to start, start by making a list of all the choices that are available to you. Of course each choice will have its pros and cons. Claim your power to make choices and see positive changes starting to occur in your life.

Forget peoples’ opinions of you

One of the reasons we get stuck in life is because we care too much about what other people think of us. I’m almost certain you have stopped doing something because you cared about what so-and-so thought about it. That mindset can only keep you stuck. So rather than live your life to impress others, start focusing on what you really want. Trying to impress others only serves to deny you what you deserve.

Don’t ignore your intuition

Your intuition is more powerful than you probably recognize. Have you ever ignored your intuition only to regret it later? Although your intuition does not tell you the exact details about what action you should take, it still always tells you something important. So don’t minimize it thinking that you are overreacting or blowing things out of proportion.

Figure out what your fear is

Most of the time, fear is what holds us back and blocks us from doing what we are supposed to be doing. In your trapped feeling, there is probably so much potential that you are not exploring or so much joy that you are not tapping into simply because you are afraid of making a move. In fact, it’s highly likely that you already know what you are supposed to do but you are just too scared to do it. Sometimes all you need to do is just start and let all the chips fall in place. After all, what do you have to lose?

Control your thoughts, not your circumstances

Your power does not come from controlling what goes on around you but rather what goes on inside your mind. Sometimes we get stuck because of our bad attitudes about situations, our perspectives or our personal fears. All of these things have an important role in how our lives pan out.

In summary

If you are feeling like you have reached your wits’ end and you are unable to change the direction of your life, you are not alone. But you don’t have to stay in the same situation. Keep doing the right things and before you know it, you will be seeing positive changes in your life.
