An organized life is a peaceful life. It’s incredible how much better we feel when all our daily activities, household items, and important papers are in order.
We feel less stressed, more capable of tackling each day, and—if we’re honest—like we’ve regained some aspect of control over our lives. Whether we accomplish this by adding a dry erase calendar, using an app, or installing an entire organization system, there are a ton of fun and creative ways to organize your life.
Write It Down
Ease the pressure you’re putting on your brain by writing it all down. Invest in a neat new notebook or a pretty planner to jot down your ideas and to-do lists. Alternatively, commit to using your phone’s notes and reminders app or download a different organizational app. Hanging up a calendar or downloading (and remembering to fill out) a scheduling app can also unburden your mind and remind you of important dates and to-dos.
Don’t Waste Your Time
Start each day with a plan. Write out your to-dos on a unique piece of stationery, a series of Post-It notes, or a chalkboard using chalk or chalk markers. Have fun illustrating your list. You could even create a list using pictures rather than words!
Once you’ve planned out your day, follow through with your commitments. Give yourself a realistic deadline on household or work projects, and set a goal for what you’d like to accomplish by the end of the day (or week).
Eliminate the Homeless
A messy house is a stressful house. Take the time at least once per week to put everything back where it belongs. This could mean organizing your kitchen countertops, medicine cabinet, or spare bedroom (where you store and forget all the extra stuff). After you’ve put everything away, use your art skills to create trendy labels.
Eliminate the Excess – Regularly
While you’re putting everything back where it belongs, consider whether you really need all the things you come across. Do you really need three broken colored pencils? Do you really need two of the same Christmas decoration? What about those old shoes you never wear? By getting rid of the excess, you give yourself more space and leave yourself less of a mess to pile up in the future. Make the process fun by throwing an organization party with pizza and upbeat music.
Delegate, Delegate, Delegate
Organization isn’t just about sorting objects and appointments; it’s about freeing up your life. An excellent way to do so is by delegating various responsibilities, tasks, and deadlines. And this philosophy can apply in your work life as well as in your home life. For example, you can delegate washing the dishes, walking the dog, or dusting the house to specific children on specific days. Or you can delegate a meeting you really don’t need to attend to one of your team members.
When your life is organized, you have so much more room to think clearly, be creative, and enjoy yourself. With so many fun and creative ways to organize your life, getting it together can be just as enjoyable.
